Personal Notes: |
Margate: 12 Tidesmen, per order, Nov. 6, 1744…Kirby Curling ex Janis Kirby
The family were in Wootton by 1748 the year after Kirby married. Kirby Curling was managing the racehorse called Syphon at stud at Geddens between Canterbury and Dover in 1757. Kirby Curling of Wooton Kent went bankrupt in 1762 (Gentleman’s Magazine). Shortly after the family moved to Sandwich where Elizabeth was baptised in 1764 (she died there in 1765). His brother John had married Jane Bunce of Ham and they had their children there from 1755 so it appears Kirby followed his brother to the Sandwich district. |
