• Richard Barber of Romansgate in the parish of St Laurence in the Isle of Thanet, fisherman • To 5 poor widows in the parish 5 shillings • To Richard son of my late son Richard my house with the herring house lands in the occupation of Elizabeth Curling widow. If he dies without heirs the house to go to his (ie the testator) daughters Ellen and Mercie. • His son in law Alexander Long to have the rent from the house until Richard (the grandson) is 21. • To Dorothy his wife the small thatched house wherein he dwells with half of the household stuff (two beds excepted) , half a cauldron of ‘coal’, four bushels of wheat and 5 shillings per year for the rent of my house. • To Joyce? daughter of his son Richard the thatched house after the decease of his (ie the testator) wife. • To my daughter Mercy the wife of Alexander Long my other house in the occuation of John Bax • To Richard £5 Mercie £10, Sarah £10 …..
