1881 Census:
Charles jnr aged 29 widower married Sarah Agnes Hammett in 1878. A daughter Charlotte born 1878. Sarah died in 1880. Charlotte G aged 3 has an error. Looking at the film the "G" is actually an"H". Charles jnr 2nd married Ellen Godwin in 1883 Newton Abbott. Charles first married Sarah Agnes Hammett in 1878 and together they had a daughter named Charlotte H, also in1878. His wife Sarah passed away in 1880. Charles was to marry again in 1883 to Ellen Godwin and were to have 5 children together: Charles Godwin 1884, George Godwin 1887, Ruth E 1888, Daisy Jane E Brewer 1889 and Stewart G Brewer 1891 (d 1892 aged 1). The family lived in Mulberry st in 1891 and Charles was a gardener. 1901 census Charles is listed as Wharfinger but the family remained in Mulberry St. In March 1894 sadly Charles was to lose his son George who died following a fall from a cliff. Inquest in papers of the time. In 1911 Charles lost his second wife Ellen. The 1911 Census show him as a widower and now a foreman Quay Co. Probate records show Ellen died 29/1/1911. They were living at 2 Bitton Ave at this time. Probate records for Charles show he was still at this address, his home having been named Godwin House, when he passed away on 5th November 1921. When his son Charles Godwin Brewer died in 1950 the address is still listed as Godwin House Bitton Ave on The Quay Teignmouth. |
