Liam Brewer says "William Brewer born 1855 in either Devon or Cornwall. He came to Ireland with his regiment and was stationed in Cork. He married Ellen McDonnell (from Carlow). They had four children - William Edward (1880), James (1882), Joseph - my grandfather (1891) and Mary (1898). There were other children who did not survive infancy."

British Army Service Records 1760-1913 FMP gives: Royal Artillary became shoesmith. In Dublin 1875 possibly until 1879. Fermoy 1890. Newcastle on Tyne in hospital three times in period 1892- 93. Discharged 14 June 1893.
